Why grading takes me so long:
mllehazelwood:
Read a page.
Shake my damn head.
Sit in disbelief that someone thought this was good.
Check the internet to clear up my head.
Finish reading paper.
Craft a long letter to the student (average of 400 words) where I try to find something to praise and yet ultimately tell them why this is not good.
Shake my head. They won’t even take the time to read my letter.
Start again.

If you care to chat, feel free to message me :)
I followed Frank before it was cool. *scarf flip*
That moment
when you notice that one of your friends is oblivious to the fact that they are dating a clearly homosexual man.
How are Team Teachers Buddies going for everyone?

Did you make sure to send a note or something fun for February?
Yes I did :)
…but I’ve yet to receive anything. Just sayin’
I, too, have received nothing.

Today I substituted for a librarian
and I had a 7th grade “life skills” class. Now these were normal kids, probably composed of the smarter 7th graders, so the whole “life skills” name made no sense.
Anyway, I had to teach them how to create an outline. Not in a teachable moment; this was the lesson play for the period. Create. An. Outline.
I never had a class about creating outlines; it was something...

For those of you who reblogged and liked my posts: aww geez, you know how to make a dark man blush
For my load of new followers: I assume you have started following me because of my glorious and epic beard, my educational background, because...

Fashionable Teacher Week: Friday
In lieu of my original idea of posting a picture of myself suited up, here is a link to an amazing blog about menswear and how to dress properly.
The article is about how a jacket should fit, which is why I elected not to post a picture. The jacket is ill fitting because I haven’t worn it for a while. The waist needs to be taken in and the sleeves need to be about an inch shorter. I need...

What I read this month, January edition.
Battle Cry of Freedom, James McPherson
If you’re a history buff, then you probably already love this book. This is the best one volume history of the Civil War Era. I say era because McPherson covers much more than the war itself. The book starts during the Mexican War and discusses the dozens of factors leading to the outbreak of war and then talks about everything going on behind the...

Resolutions 2012: Update, Round 1
Attention: I kept every single one of my resolutions for an entire month. I made it past the first day. I made it past the first week. I made it past the dreaded 3 week mark. I’m in this for the duration this year.
I’m probably not going to listen to every song on my iTunes this year. There is just too much music; I am, however, going to make a conscious effort to listen to a lot...

This morning when I woke up, I did not want to go...
This is the first time that I have ever not wanted to go to school and teach. I’ve always wanted to go every single day since I did my first observations in the classroom.
I had an experience yesterday (not as bad as today, see my previous post) with students that have been given up on and themselves gave up and didn’t give a shit about anything. I attribute that to my feeling this...
